And Just Like That...HAPPY NEW YEAR! A Reflection and an Apprehension

The new year has come quicker than ever.  It wasn’t until this week before I could scrutinize my 2018 and assess my aspirations for the forthcoming year.  I had a sundry of achievements I never thought I would achieve in just one year, or at all even.  Reading Dance Magazine and Pointe Magazine cover to cover as a little girl, wonderstruck by dancers whom I adored and ignited the fire of ballet within me.  Holding a copy of each in my hands knowing I was featured inside (as one of Pointe Magazine’s “2018 Stars of the Corps” and one of Dance Magazine’s “2019 25 to Watch”) alongside beloved artists was one of the greatest feelings.  Not to mention a phone call that would change my career forever... The day I was granted my very own Princess Grace Award which would be the greatest achievement of my career thus far.

Dance Magazine asked a few of their 2019 25 to Watch features about their New Year’s Resolutions and I gave them several of mine: Better my dancing with inspiration outside of my own art form, improve with positivity, make each performance better than the last, widen the variety of food I cook, enjoy things that are often taken for granted, approach every day with gratitude, think about posture, live every moment like it is my last.

Nutcracker ended with a bang on New Years Eve, I immediately hopped on a plane to NC after the curtain fell.  It was lovely to get out of the city after our 28 performances and return home for a week off.  It was a tranquil and splendid New Year’s Day I spent with family, my dogs, and incredible food cooked by my brilliant dad!  I took classes at my home studio and was offered to teach my very own master class to deliver a tinge of my knowledge to pupils of the school.  I received my Learner’s Permit in North Carolina when I was fifteen before moving to Philadelphia and it had been my goal to earn my Driver’s License since then.  I studied and practiced through the course of a few days before I took the trip to the DMV and low and behold... I passed the test!  I had little hope in my passing the road test but I’m glad I finally got the courage to try.

Tomorrow I will be departing the green and lush North Carolina and returning to the concrete jungle to commence new ballets at Pennsylvania Ballet including “Giselle” and Jerome Robbin’s “The Cage” just to name a few.  Anticipating what 2019 has in store, as I am along for the ride and will work my hardest and achieve those Resolutions!  You can read a few of the articles I mentioned in this post below... Wishing you and your loved ones a happy and healthy new year!
